I’m Writing My Book For Me And My Art. Why Do I Need To Write To Market? 😤

If you’ve been following Smokin’ Hot Books® for some time, you’ve probably been told that your writing, title, and cover is best created with your audience in mind.

That can create a lot of resistance for authors.

Especially if you created something from your heart.

Especially if you believe, or have even experienced, that creating for others is a straight shot to losing your authentic voice.

But writing to market and creating something from your heart are not at odds with each other.

They actually complement each other.

Let me explain.

When I say you want to write to market, you may think of pandering.

Performing for someone else.

Losing yourself and your authenticity in the meantime.

Maybe you have had this experience in the past, where you did things only to please others, and you lost yourself in the process.

I want to let you know that you and your voice is the sole reason why your book exists in the first place.

The reason your book exists is because you have a special mission and story that only YOU could tell.

You are a unique masterpiece.

A piece of the Master, as Rabbi David Aaron says.

Your solution and your perspective comes uniquely from your experience, your research, your experiments, your failures and your successes.

There is only 1 person who can write your book.

You.

But I also want to share with you that if you want your book to help a lot of people, your readers need to understand why your book matters to them.

That is the basis of marketing, in a nutshell.

Marketing is not social media, Youtube videos, or guesting on podcasts.

Marketing is talking to your market in a way they understand you and your story, because you love them (and yourself). ❤️‍🔥

One of our students inside Viral Author Academy once had a book called Flashes of Light.

To the author, Flashes of Light is a deeply personal title.

But to the author’s readers, they had no idea what her book was about.

Do you know what that book is about?

The author struggled to sell her book for years, despite staying consistent on Youtube and Instagram.

This was a deeply personal title for her, because it was related to her story of undergoing strokes that led to the downfall of her business, which led to her creating a coaching program to help other sick women rebuild their solopreneur practices.

She is now understanding that combining her art with the information that will help her readers, a title, and cover that her reader understands will actually help both her readers and herself.

I have another example of a yoga book for male bodybuilders.

The content of the book could have been a 21-day yoga plan.

But male bodybuilders do not want a 21-day yoga plan.

What they really want is to lift more, and in order to do that, they want more flexibility without losing their feeling of masculinity. What they really needed was their objections handled via case studies of other male bodybuilders using yoga to get peak performance.

The right content for a yoga book that helps male bodybuilders is case studies, not a 21-day plan.

The right content helps the right people.

Period.

Creating a book, title, and cover that combines your art with what your reader understands is the basis of what we call Marketing Alchemy here at Smokin’ Hot Books®.

It’s the melding of you + them.

Your readers have free Youtube, free Instagram, other books like yours competing for their attention. They have so much other stuff to do than read your book.

Maybe you’re writing your book primarily for you.

But the fundamental calling of humans is to help each other.

According to kabbalah, we feel most happy when we are in purpose.

We feel most in purpose when we give.

When we give, we feel most in purpose, and we feel like a guitar being used to jam out to the best rock music ever, instead of just being used to hold a plant.

Artist Keith Haring created art to raise awareness around AIDS. Nowadays, in 2026, AIDS and HIV is less of a stigma and more of those afflicted with this disease can get treatment, because the artist combined his talents with what he knew he could do to help others.

Combine your art with what your audience needs to hear, because inspiring them feeds your soul, funds your art, and keeps you coming back.

This is what is called Marketing Alchemy at Smokin’ Hot Books.®

With AI, the number of books published per year has gone up from 2 million to 4 million per year.

What that means to you:

Lean harder into the thing that makes you you: your story, your writing, your art.

Combine it with your mission to help those who need you by communicating what they need to hear in a way they understand.

Because you love them.

Because you love yourself.

That is alchemy.

That is transformation.

For both you and your reader.

Making magic happen for both you and your readers is what you want, isn’t it? ❤️‍🔥
